Hi, I just submitted my application this morning, have you decided if you are going to apply to the program?

Medical Technologist Forum - 4+1 CLS Programs in the Midwest: Hi everyone, I'm a third-year biochem...
Hi everyone,
I'm a third-year biochemistry major at a small college and I'm really interested in applying to CLS programs after finishing my degree. I was wondering if anyone had any idea of how competitive midwest programs are. I have a 3.8 science gpa and will have some experience with clinical research at a transplant center this summer, however my only other lab experiences are from coursework (some cell culturing and miRNA/DNA work, but mainly organic chemistry and protein studies)
Because my school is pretty small, it doesn't offer immunology or A&P. I've found some programs that don't specify these as prereqs (Evanston Hospital and SLU), but if people say it's necessary I'll probably take immunology online from the UC Berkeley extension if people say it's necessary.
Any ideas about my competitiveness/ways to improve my chances of acceptance? Also, any opinions on taking immunology online would be much appreciated, thanks!
70k in this economy is not bad at all, quit the whining and wait for more standards to be applied. If people can manage minimum wage or even 40k a year salaries ontop of their tax cuts then you don't beat a 70k deal.
Hi rohan.I live on long Island and have been thinking about doing medical technology. It has so many mixed reviews. I do not want to spend another 2 years of my time in school and not make that much. It's now 2016, I'm sure salaries have increased somewhat. But I am not trying to pursue one thing, only to pursue something else later on. Whatever I decide I want to make it my career. Since you live in NY are you still a mt? Have the salaries gotten better? I can't do another 2 years only to make 25$/hr. That's crazy.

Medical Technologist Forum - Have you had issues with California Laboratory Field Services (LFS)?: I find it pretty unprofessional how sele...
I find it pretty unprofessional how selective LFS is about which emails to respond to. I'm waiting on my CA CLS license application to move forward so I can take the CA law quiz but my application status is still pending despite them having all the necessary docs. I suspect they read my emails because the application "last update" changed, but for some reason, no reply.
My classmate had to send multiple emails before finally getting a response, in which they told her she still needed certain documents that they should have already received months in advance. This seems to be a known issue with LFS lately; they will have trouble locating your documents or lose them.
I tried calling them before, all I ever got was their voicemail telling me email's faster. Very frustrating!

Medical Technologist Forum - CLS Licensing for Philippine Graduate: Hello Ralph, I graduated in the Phili...
Hello Ralph,
I graduated in the Philippines and is currently working in the US with zero work experience. If you plan to go back to Philippines and finish the BS Medical Laboratory Science, then be sure that the school you're going to has at least one year of internship at the end of the program, lots of hospitals and states (for licensure) will need at least a year of experience (work or training).
After you graduate, you should get your ASCPi and get your transcripts evaluated for equivalency here in the US (ASCP's procedure booklet has a list of evaluators in the last page; but I had mine evaluated by AACRAO since a lot of institutions acknowledge it). I graduated from a school with an MLS program (just recently opened) but my Bachelor's degree was acknowledged. After ASCPi certification and also acquiring your evaluated transcripts, apply for your state license if you live in the following states (California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Tennessee, West Virginia, and territory of Puerto Rico). After which, apply for several jobs you like/prefer to increase your chances of getting hired.
On ASCPi, there are several ways to qualify. As for fresh graduates in the Philippines or former graduates without experience, you can have your transcripts evaluated asap and then submit the evaluated transcript when you apply for the ASCP Certification (Board of Certification) exam. OR you can also take the Philippine board exam and use your PRC license number when applying for the ASCP Certification exam. I did the latter because I had to review anyway. So I attended a review center (just for the Philippine Board Exam), took the board exam and later on, after acquiring my PRC license number, applied for the ASCPi and took the exam. It took almost a year to get my PRC license and ASCPi certification because of the processing time.

Hi everybody. I just took the exam and passed :). When I was taking it I thought it was very hard but I did better than I thought. Sergeg, the tip I have for you is passascp.org, many of my questions was from there. Maybe 25-30. That's already about 300 points, giving each only 10 points value. Some of them have 25 points so you could pass by answering only 30 questions correctly.
I think you have to wait 3 months, at least, before you can retake the exam.
Hi all.I am planning to apply to CLS program at Texas tech.I have MS in Microbiology,i am planning to do this one year certificate program there are good reviews about Texas tech university.Since this is an online program i have never taken any online programs.Does anyone of you who is already in this program know how it works online, also how competitive is it to get into this one year program. How hard is the program.I have heard its tough to get into those one year CLS programs because they have limited seats available.Texas tech has mentioned 2.5 GPA to apply, does anyone know what was the highest GPA overall they accepted to get into this program.Do they require any clinical laboratory experience before applying to this program or do they give preference to ones who have good amounts of hands on experience in labs.I am planning to apply Asap.Appreciate your comments.Thank you.
Hi, Did you end up applying to the program, I submitted my application a few weeks ago but still waiting for my transcripts to be verified. I heard it's on rolling admission so hopefully the earlier the better chances we have . Good luck.

Medical Technologist Forum - Are you a happy MLT?: [QUOTE who="SRLB in Lake Worth, Florida"...
WOW. I am really not sure what to think. I considered nursing, but I am not interested in the one-on-one patient care aspect of nursing. I am making plans right now to begin my education for a career as an MT, and since there are no programs in my immediate area, I have to travel quite a bit. The only program offered is at least an hour away and it is an AS degree. I am interested in a BS degree, but I will have to take the AS and continue online for the BS as there are NO courses offered in my area.
To go through such measures to obtain a degree in a field with such "happy" people, I am not so sure. I am going to print these opinions and discuss this with the head of the program where the AS degree is offered to see what she thinks.
I would love to hear from anyone else with an opinion on the matter. Thanks.[/Q///////// PICK ANOTHER MEDICAL FIELD . LOOK AT WHAT OTHER MEDICAL FIELDS MAKE. MLT ONE OF THE LOWEST. WISH I HAD PICKED ANOTHER MEDICAL FIELD .

I have MLS certificate, just passed this last week. ASCP is accepted everywhere, not sure which one is easier. The test I took was not easy, but I think if you study the subjects that have been on the test repeatedly you should pass. Liked labce and Polansky but for sure get the passascp.org, they had only 120-130 questions but many of them are on the exam. I got over 700 points and all you need is 400 according to the email that I received.

Medical Technologist Forum - 4+1 CLS Programs in the Midwest: Go to google and type in "michigan state...
Go to google and type in "michigan state university med tech matching program"
You do NOT have to be a michigan state student to apply.
When you graduate you go to that website and apply to the four hospital based schools in the program. You interview with the schools and if they like you, you will get a spot. The internships range from 6 months to 1 year long. Some even will pay for your health insurance give you a stipend while your there.
At a 3.8 you will get in, i got in with a 3.4 a couple years back.
Most interveiws are on a point system. So if you take Med Tech classes like Blood Bank, Hematology, Urinalysis, Immunology, Parasitolgy, mycology you get more points.
Only required courses to apply are like 24 credits of biology and 16 credits of chemistry with microbiology.
The details are all in the website.
Its a good option if you dont get a chicago school since your only a couple hours away from home.
I want to get the F*uck out of texas, there are no standards. I am about to graduate from texas tech, and the hospital I am training at, there is a military trained person working there without certification. There is a Bio Major that has no theory other than plant biology releasing normal results.
I wish I can report them to the board, BUT CLS DOES NOT HAVE A BOARD!! This states sucks.
CLS48 I am thinking of moving these because you are convincing me these MLT (scabs) will not be used there in the future. I just want to make sure they will not use them. I have 20K worth of student debt, I am studying for my ASCP while I am in my clinicals. I realize the cost of living is high, but that fact that you can potentially make 100K is a reality in california, and not in any other part of the country.
I really hope they keep standards high, once they use these cheap labor this profession will go to sh*t like the 49 other states.
Wow, with your attitude, you better go to Medical School, because no-one-will hire-you! Mellow the f*** out dude, it's a conservative field!
