Do you still need your questions answered. I just became a MLS a few months ago
Hi Jospeh I was wondering if you are able to help me out. I am currently in an MLT program in Indiana, and would like to attend a school to become an MLS. Will it then be possible for me to work in California? I am originally from there and wanted to ultimately work there. Thank you !

Medical Technologist Forum - Stressing out, Am I correct on this Medical technician route to CA MT?: I am about to graduate from a Medical T...
I am about to graduate from a Medical Technologist MLT program here in California. I wish I would have known about doing all of my pre-reqs and transfer to a 4 year school, where I could have majored in lab science or biology and do a 4 + 1 program or a 2 year program like LLU.
Since its already too late, I wanted to enroll in a MLT to MT program online. Once I graduate with my BS will I be allowed to do a 1 year CLS program (i would have to complete the pre-reqs that my mt program didn't cover) and once I am done with that I can apply for CA licensure?
I know that although I will have my MLT license route 2 will not work for me since I won't have 2 year lab experience in all departments required by ASCP. Hopefully I can at least work in the meantime as an MLT while I complete the online MLT to MT program.
Am i allowed to do Route 1? Since I will have my MT Bachelors and a one year completed program here in CA. If Anyone can please help, thank you!
There us Phlebotomy included in the curriculum. You will just have one short section of this during the lab week. You will be practicing this on a real person, just someone from your class. But the instructors are lineant about grading as they know this is your first time. Previously, they had included this with ur preceptorship at the end of the year- you need 40 successful sticks to pass this part. But now they have taken that away..so the only time you will stick a real person is when you go for you lab week-that too just one time! So don't be nervous , u 'll b ok.
I am thinking of applying for the program. Can someone tell how long is clinical preceptorship and how easy it is to find the hotel and other accommodations?

I am a student looking to get into the field. I hear it's a " stepping stone " to other professions. I go back and forth between med lab technologist or nursing. I am kinda shy and like to keep to myself at times. But I am nervous bc I hear that med tech aren't paid much. It will be 2 years until I graduate. I hear there are shortages and that technology may even put techs out a jobs which is crazy. I just want to have some feedback from some one working in the field and if I should go thru the hard schooling of it. Thanks

Hey all, I'm very new to this forum and relatively new to the work force. Around March, maybe sooner, I'll be moving to PA from LA and from what I've seen in the comments here it's a very different work environment.
I was hoping y'all could give me some advice on the usual; where to look for jobs, which health systems to avoid, what kind of pay I should ask for and that sort of thing. I'm also really interested to know how fast positions are filled, but any advice is good advice right now!
Hope to hear from y'all!
Diana most MT I know go on to Med School, Pharmacy, OT, PT. They profession does not pay well. Its not so much a career ladder as in there is horrible pay. There are no standards in the clinical lab . There are multiple certifications, and not a standard degree, how do you expect anyone to stay in the field like this?
The standards in the clinical lab are crazy. I can attest to this having undergone numerous federal inspections. It depends on the state, and if you work in an accredited lab. You must not be familiar.
In Florida you just need a warm body in the lab .
No standards at all, thats why they have a 14 month training course without getting your associate degree.
I hope you stay in Florida or your hospital the rest of your life, because most people will look at you as a joke with your 14 month certificate course and your AAB certification!
I'm not really sure what you're talking about and you sound like a moron. I live in Florida and I had to get my BS (I went the health sciences route because I was initially planning on going straight to PA school) before even APPLYING to take my MT (AAB) exam. This is due to having less than two years of full time lab experience in all five disciplines. And there is no 14 month training course to become MLT certified in Florida either. All of the NAACLS accredited schools are 24 month programs, UNLESS you have already completed the pre-reqs (which is the equivalent of a 3 semester full course load). So maybe get the facts before you come on a forum spewing nonsense.

Medical Technologist Forum - MT/CLS schools in Texas: [QUOTE who="frostedoreos in College Stat...
No probs!! I was a BS biology major (minored in digital art for fun. I used to be an animation major when I first entered uni, but changed majors a few times. but I think they liked that I was well rounded in my interview though...) and graduated with around a 3.45 GPA. Not the highest but in the application, you have to log only the classes that they require and it ended up being around 3.89 as far as this program is concerned. If that makes sense?? It makes sense once you go through the online application. I did research for a semester with one of my biology professors last year. I haven't done any internships lol, but I work at a university library part-time. The interview I think also is probably a good part of the admissions process to make sure you're a good fit for the program, like a lot of previous answers I've seen on this forum, it's more to get to know you rather than technical knowledge. They definitely don't want you working a lot of hours during the program (no more than 20 hours). I applied in late february so not super early but not too late either. I was pretty unsure if I was gonna make it either since it was the only CLS program I applied to but it turned out fine by the end. If you have any other questions just let me know!! Sorry for the lengthy answer and late reply but I hope it's helpful. Good luck in applying! :D
I really appreciate all people helping here and giving valuable insights. I am planning to apply for the program this year, but concerned about hardship mainly because of responsibility of 2 small kids and preceptorship part and those 7 days lab part. I was wondering Is there any way we can prepare ahead for the exams/lab part, so that you don't need to rush at the end. I think you just started the program, would you mind sharing your experience course by course/ textbook etc., so that I can do a little prep beforehand.
Thanks
