I went from a doctor's office to a small hospital about a year ago. I like the work, I like my shift, but there seem to be so much scheming and backstabbing going on that I do not know what to think. There is a new manager, and he started out by documenting every mistake in a corrective action, which we then had to sign. Next, he encouraged the techs to fill out corrective actions on each other. Now we are at the point where every little mistake (and I do mean little) is being sent to HR as a verbal warning. I just got my first one this week. What is he up to? Is this even legal ? The atmosphere in the lab is really tense, with everybody looking over their shoulder and suspecting everybody else. People are terrified of making mistakes, and try to cover them up or accuse other people. Anybody familiar with this? I am seriously thinking about looking for another job.
Yep pretty common. Once you get a write up or 2 look for a new job. I just left a lucrative hospital gig because of this. The turnover in that place is atrocious, to the point of causing potential v patient safety issues.

I am a PhD in Biological Sciences and want to make a shift towards clinical side. I have 8+ years of Lab/research experience, but non clinical. So my question is If I take AAB exam, and get MT AAB certification, would that be helpful in getting a MT JOB in hospitals/labs? I don't see a future as doing post doctorate over and again as in research unless you become a facility, you are paid lowest possible wages. Any input would be appreciated.

I am a freshman in college majoring in medical laboratory science. I have looked at the curriculums for various schools and they all differ a bit, but the one I am going to seems to have less requirements. Other schools require A&P, genetics, cell bio, general micro. Should I consider taking any of these? I want to be as prepared as I possibly can for my clinical rotations.

I am having similar issues, mainly with non-responsiveness. Someone above mentioned a phone number or talking to a manager - does anyone actually have any names or phone numbers for LFS? All I have been able to find is the generic e-mail address, and they have not responded to my multiple emails in almost a month now.
I was able to see Professor Harris before I started at CSUDH, likely because I applied to CSUDH and was accepted as a student, to see which classes I would still need to take (after reviewing your transcripts, she lists the courses you will still need to take and gives you an estimation on when you are likely to complete them in order to apply to the internship program).
Thanks for the info. I emailed her today, hopefully I will hear back from her. I have a biochem degree. Graduated in 2008. I wonder if those credits wont be accepted due to the length of time. Do you have any idea?

Hello, I am looking for a physician to shadow in Miami-Dade County. I currently live in Miami Beach and have access to a car, so transportation is not a problem for me. I am preparing myself to apply to Med School in 2018 and as such am looking for a Physician who specializes in either Cardio, Neuro, or Pediatrics. I am also looking to shadow a Physician from any other discipline, as experience is the main factor here. I do have a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and am available after 8:30 AM on Monday through Sunday. Thank you!
Hey, what is the verdict on PhD's becoming lab techs? The PhD would certainly come in handy if you want to be a lab director . All the training involved with PhD/Post-doc is not insignificant. Take the HCLD exam and open a reference lab. My problem is that CLIA mandates that all testing personnel in Montana have a license. I was employed as a lab manager but I cannot do any of the testing!! Can anyone provide suggestions as to how to quickly get enough qualifications to take the AAB exam? My job is on the line, maybe my career. I think I need a clinical internship . I am not sure the aab will let me take it. I completed a PhD in Pharmacology, Post-Doc in Neuroscience. need clinical Lab experience, 8 yrs bench research as a mol biologist does not count i guess! Any suggestions greatly appreciated! - Was this comment helpful? Yes / No Reply - Report abuse
Any Update? I am also completed 5 yrs postdoc after PhD in Biochemistry. Do not know what to do next? Thanks, Raj

Thank you all for your input. In my situation, because of a family to take care of , i am not mobile, however, the university near by me offering the CLS program is going to waive my pre requisite and instead of 4 yrs, I will be able to complete my 2nd degree, in 2 years from now, including one year clinical rotation and good news is i can start this fall as a non degree student, which is not possible normally. I also inquired for MLT in my vicinity, admission is closed for this year, plus they won't do shortcut, so I will be spending 18-24 months starting next year. SO my best bet is to go by option 1, where I will get CLS by 2018, it is little expensive, but i feel like best option right now. Thanks again. this platform is a life saver and i appreciate how people are willing to give valuable suggestion.

HI, I am enrolled in a CLS program in Wisconsin, which i might complete in spring 2018. The program has 12 months professional training component. I already have Masters and PhD in Biochemistry, so I am pursuing CLS as 2nd degree, where instead of 4 years, I will be able to complete program in 2 years. We have plans to move to California in future, my question : 1. Will I be able to get CA license, If i move after completing CLS program? 2. If i move in between, will the pre requisite courses, I am taking right now, be helpful in getting a CA-CLS Trainee license? 3. How much it costs in general to take pre- requisite courses ( Med micro, hematology, clin immuno), If I end up moving earlier? TIA.
