#1) WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN. Some techs will get annoyed with you that you are writing everything, TOO BAD, write it all down anyway. There are so many minor details and things to remember that it is so helpful and reflects so much better on you when you only have to be told something ONCE because you can refer to your notes. #2)Double and triple check every label your resulting etc. So easy when your starting out to get the cold sweats because you realize you have a patients sample in your hand and another sample is on the screen. lol. you catch a lot of really bad errors from happening just by double checking yourself. #3) Alot of Med Techs have personality disorders, and when I mean a lot, I will say a majority of them. Some actually laugh and take bets on if they can make a student cry. Just remember you are not there to make friends or have them like you, you are there to learn. Screw them and don't let them get to you. Best thing to do is to just keep your mouth shut, don't gossip about any coworkers or students, and don't talk unless they ask you something. If you follow those three rules you will do good.
Sorry for the late reply (studying and what not), but thank you for replying. Have you performed your rotations recently or was it some time ago? I'm curious as to how much theory that we're learning (which is a lot) is actually used in the lab. I'm not saying that a good chunk of the theory will apply and I understand that we need to understand the concepts. I'm just curious as to how I'm supposed to study. Like, how will I know what is important vs what isn't, given all the boat load of information that we're given in lecture.
