Ok, this thread irritates me a bit. I'm an MLT, been working in labs for 10 years. I work the bench side by side with Med Tech day in, day out. I do everything they do including releasing results, working in blood bank and micro. I'm often lead tech on my shift. Yet, I get paid $5-$8 per hour less than a new grad Med Tech. I know 10x more about running and working in a lab than any MT coming out of school and as much ore more than the average vet MT. The fact is that Labs are going more toward MLT. Why? Because we can to everthing MTs can do for less. I understand why labs require MT for managers and that makes sense to me but to pay an MT doing that does the same work as MLT $5+ and hour more is insulting. Also, this arrogant BS that some MTs have about their degree over an MLT's real world experience is very insulting. Funny that most labs prefer hiring MLTs to work the bench over an MT because they are cheaper and more qualified to do it coming out school than an MT. MT's are a dying breed because MLTs can do your job. If that's the case, why bother with getting a 4 year degree?
Who cares? Go get a BS in CLS, loser!
