Why not consider Texas Tech's post bac CLS program. That is the program I am in and getting ready to complete. It is not extremely expensive (Texas has reasonable tuition like Florida and the distance program does not charge out of state tuition), and you would be done in 1 year and eligible to sit for the ASCP right away. I was in the same boat as you with the only local option an MLT program at Indian River State College (I live in St. Lucie County), I was accepted into the program and then changed my mind at the last minute after learning about the Texas program (I was also accepted to FGCU but like you could not move for 12 months). I found my current internship affiliate (Integrated Regional laboratories) but Texas Tech also has an affiliation with a hospital in Orlando (and they are good about helping you find one local to you if you can't travel to one of their current ones). There are some hurdles to overcome but in my mind it was better to end up with a Post Bac from a NAACLS CLS program and be eligible to sit for the ASCP exam right away. If I would have gone the MLT route I would still have another year left and after that I would only have my MLT (plus my bachelors )and have to get work experience before being eligible to take the exam.
Hi MLStobe, I am trying to get enrolled in MT-ASCP Program across FL. I am Ph.D. in Microbiology from India and MB-ASCP certified. I didnt find MB-ASCP marketable so trying last 1 year for consolidated MT Intern Program so that I can sit MT-ASCP exam. I am trying last 2 years at Tampa General, Bayfront- St Petersburg and St Vincent at JAX but failed to get even Interview call. Now I only see Integrated Regional laboratories at Palm Beach at FL is their affiliate. Their Post Bac CLS are costly as I see now. Do you have any suggestion where I can get non Expensive MT Internship? I will really appreciate your kind answer. Thanks
