Oh that is interesting. CA has limited licenses for blood bank , chemistry , micro, and molecular bio. These work the same as the generalist CLS licenses and the pay is the same, but you can only work in that dept. If it does allow just experience to be used in place of rotations that would be a major loophole. ASCP in that dept or the generalist ASCP should be sufficient.
The key verbage here is "All areas of Microbiology." I'm a new tech working as a bench tech reading plates (Bacteriology) in another state for 1 year now. My questions are what if your CLIA certified lab doesn't do say, parisitology, AFB, Mycology, or any of those combinations? What do they do?? What if you were hired to do the one bench in your Microbiology lab and they can't train you in other areas because they are short staffed?? If you have one year work experience in a Micro Lab do they deny your application for not having parisitology experience? Example, the hospital I worked for previous had O&P's sent out... How do they scrutinize the application? Is one year work experience/history in a Micro Lab sufficient to attain a limited license in Microbiology in California? (I have all other requirements in check.)
