I'm looking for people who have encountered issues obtaining CLS or limited CLS licensing in California. Specifically, tell me Laboratory Field Services horror stories! My problem is that, despite being ASCP certified in Molecular Biology and having a Ph.D., I can't get a limited license in California because my 20 years of work experience is academic, which isn't recognized by state law . LFS has told me that, in order to meet California requirements, I'll either have to enroll in a CLS program or move out of state and work in a CLIA-certfied lab for a year. Both of these options are ridiculous. The way things stand, I can teach a CLS to work in a molecular lab but I can't do the job myself. I've met several people who moved to California who said that LFS made them retake the ASCP exam, despite being certified for almost 20 years! There have to be many more stories like this. Please add to this discussion. Thanks!
This sounds strange given you are qualified to be a Lab Director in MB! I am helping a Head and Neck Surgeon with 17 years Mohs experience plus Mohs fellowship, etc because LFS is saying he doesnt quality to perform Mohs surgery! He is President of SD Dermatologic society and teaches Mohs at Scripps, etc. So, yes it is nuts. May I have your email because I would like to look into this more but am on my phone, and I don't really want to use this site. I know it's been 42 months, but if you are still around, please em me at c_rubendall@roadrunner.com. It may not be as bad as tou think.
